"Go, Dragons!"

Davis, 7, finally gets to take his turn playing soccer. He has spent the last few years watching his older sisters play soccer and basketball and now it's his turn to be in the spotlight and he LOVES it! He has been so much fun to watch and his game improves every week. "Rain or...rain", we are there on the sidelines freezing to death, cheering him on. "Go, Dragons!"

Davis looks so cool! rain or rain is crazy! I can't believe they play and you sit & watch even in the rain. awesome! when's Ryan's turn & what's her sport of choice??

The rain actually hasn't been too bad this season yet. The last few games will most definitely be miserable, but Davis is a bit tougher with wet and cold than Ginger was! Ryan will probably start with young women's! Ginger will start YW sports in 18months!

Luke saw this and said, "Dragons? Awesome. Does he ever win?"

Heids, after seeing Conference, aren't you glad we're not over scheduling our kids with sports, etc? Abigail is the only one in a sport right now, and it's enough to be at her practices and games! Half of the families in our ward have about 4 kids ALL in soccer and other lessons, and their family life is all over the place. They're never eating dinner together during the week. I just couldn't do it and I wouldn't want to.

Kate, YES!! I felt so pleased to know that I was doing it right, when you sometimes feel guilty about not letting your kids be a part of it. It really just overtakes the family time and it's not good. I have actually talked to several people about it and they realize that it's okay to not have every kid in sports at the same time. Somehow people get sucked into it and don't realize how it can overtake your life!
Luke: Davis is almost undefeated. They have only lost 1 out of 5 games.

Indeed, girls, as you know with my crew I really limited the sports. I had to. But remember when I had six of you in gymnatics? Amber was the baby and there were three classes going simultaniously. It was great! Then I felt piano was especially important for the girls. The boys tried some, but they were not really interested. So I let YW take over the sports for the girls. The boys didn't get as many opportunities in YM. R&J got T-ball, T got two yrs of soccer, Derek got community B-Ball and T-ball, but didn't like soccer because the team was coached and made up of mostly Mexicans who were just culturally different and mean/hard on the field. But YM gave him a few B-Ball games to shine in. But it was Pres. Benson years ago who said to keep the kids at home and put them to work! :) Well, for the most part. Sorry this is a book.

I completely agree! Alan and I were just saying last week (right before conference) that we are big believers in family sports and that we will seldom have our children on community teams. Its good family time, saves money, saves time! Plus, I'll bet Alan is better than any little league coach out there! ;)
